Space Utilization - What's New in FY09

WebSpace

The annual space survey is always very important, but the FY 09 survey is even more significant because it is a base year for the University’s Facilities and Administrative (F&A) rate proposal. All financial activity during the fiscal year will be consolidated into the F&A proposal to develop overhead rates that will be effective for FY 11 and beyond. The space survey is a critical part of the F&A proposal because it determines how most of the facility costs (equipment and building depreciation, interest and operations and maintenance expenses) will be allocated to organized research.

As part of the University’s commitment to upgrade technology by replacing or improving existing systems, the space survey migrated from the legacy FIS Space System to a web-based application for the FY 08 survey. The new WebSpace system was implemented in April, 2008.

Research departments will complete the FY 09 space survey using WebSpace.

Academic departments that do not have research and central administrative departments will receive the same report they have received in prior years. That report will need to be reviewed and returned to the appropriate space office.

Also, the following changes (shown in red type) were made to the Space Utilization website for FY 06:

  • The Room Type Codes webpage has been updated with the addition of Clean Room (260), Administrative Office (320), Administrative Office Service (325), Faculty Office (330), Faculty Office Service (335). Room Type code (310) has been redefined as General Office. Please view the Room Type Code Definitions page for complete definitions.
