210 Class Laboratory
A room used primarily for formally or regularly scheduled classes that require special-purpose equipment (other than computer equipment) for student participation, experimentation, observation, or practice in a field of study.

A room used primarily by regularly scheduled classes that require computer equipment for student participation, experimentation, observation, or practice in a field of study.

251 Non-Class Dry Laboratory
A room used for laboratory application, research, and/or training in research methodology that does not require special-purpose equipment (e.g., sinks, fumehoods) and/or special utilities (e.g., piped services) that enables that room to be used for staff and/or student experimentation or observation.

Examples of non-class dry laboratories include rooms used for conducting paper or book research, collecting clinical or epidemiological data for research purposes or non-class laboratories using electronic equipment not requiring special-purpose equipment or utilities to support that electronic equipment.

252 Non-Class Electronic Data Processing Laboratory
A room equipped for laboratory application, research, and/or training in research methodology that conducts electronic data processing requiring special-purpose equipment (e.g., raised floors, increased bench space) and/or special-purpose utilities (e.g., electrical, air conditioning).

A room that directly services one or more non-class laboratories by housing photography development or similar equipment.

310 General Office
An office used by individuals other than faculty or administrative staff working at one or more desks, tables, or workstations. Examples of this are lab managers and post-docs.

710 Central Computer or Telecommunications
A room used as a computer-based data processing or telecommunication center with applications broad enough to serve the overall administrative or academic primary equipment needs of a central group of users, departments, college, school, or entire institution.

A room that directly serves a central computer or telecommunications facility as an extension of the activities in that facility.

A room used for the manufacture, repair, or maintenance, of products or equipment. Does not include instructional shops (see 210).

730 Central Storage
A room or building that is used to store equipment or materials that serves multiple room type (use) categories, organizational units, or buildings. The concept of central or general is the key to applying this code correctly. The vast majority rooms in the University are service rooms that directly support a primary activity room or room group; for example a paper storage room (see 315) can serve several offices in an area. See the following or other service room codes:

Service storage rooms are somewhat closer to to the areas they serve and are used more than occasionally. Central storage areas include areas commonly called warehouses, surplus storage, central campus supply or storage, and inactive storage. It also includes storage rooms in a building or building area that serve multiple room type (use) categories and which are used for general or surplus (e.g., furniture, equipment) collection or storage. The 730 code can usually be used for all storage areas that do not qualify as service rooms.

735 Central Storage Service
A room that directly serves a warehouse/central storage facility as an extension of the activities in that facility.

Central storage service rooms are typically limited to support rooms associated with the transporting of materials in and out of large central storage facilities and warehouses such as hand truck storage rooms.

A room or structure that is used to house and/or store vehicles.

Includes centralized food stores and laundries which typically serve the occupants or activities of more than one building; central facilities for printing and duplicating services, and central mail facilities.
